Hotel Mockingbird Hill – Port Antonio, Jamaica
About
Hotel Mockingbird Hill is an upscale hilltop lodge in Port Antonio, Jamaica. It is set on 6.5 tropical hilltop acres on the northeast coast between the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea in Port Antonio. It is Jamaica’s most sustainable eco-boutique hotel and has won the Caribbean Hotel Association’s award for the best small “green” hotel. It is a 10-room hotel with ocean views and mountain views with private balconies. The upscale hotel offers a variety of rooms from garden view rooms, superior rooms, deluxe rooms, den rooms, and rooms with a living room and a private first-floor patio leading to its pool. But that is not all, Hotel Mockingbird Hill also offers a birding paradise within its grounds with a 7-acre bird-friendly garden for its guests. Their gardens are recommended by ‘Birds of the West Indies’. You can spot at least 22 of the 28 Jamaican endemic species and 6 Caribbean endemics, all footsteps from your own hotel room.
Though if you are looking to explore more of Port Antonio, Hotel Mockingbird is minutes from Frenchman’s Cove and beach, Rio Grande, and Nonsuch Falls. Other common bird species found near Port Antonio include the Jamaican Mango, Black-billed Streamertail, Jamaican Woodpecker, Olive-throated Parakeet, and the Jamaican Oriole. Hotel Mockingbird Hill can help you arrange bird watching tours from one day to a 7-day tour. They can help you with birding packages tailored to your needs and help you connect with local experts to accompany you in the field. Hotel Mockingbird is truly a birder’s paradise. Owen visited in March 2013 and has photographed the Black-Billed Streamertail, Black-billed Amazon, Jamaican Spindalis, Jamaican Mango, Jamaican Tody, and many others.
